The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Surrender Trilogy and the Breathless Trilogy knows what makes readers hot. Now she turns it up in Mastered, the explosive first book in a new series of a desire too dangerous to resist. What he wants, he takes with no remorse or guilt.
She stood out in his club like a gem, unspoiled and untouched. A lamb among wolves, she clearly didn’t belong. Drawn to her innocence he watched as she was surrounded by men who saw what he did—but no one but him could touch her. He summoned her to his private quarters. He sensed her fear. He also recognized the desire in her eyes. And he knew she wouldn’t leave before he possessed her. She had no need to know his secrets. Not until he had her under his complete and utter control.
What he wants, she isn’t sure she can give him.
The moment he told her want he wanted, she couldn’t resist. Instinct told her to run, but her heart said stay and walk the fine line between pleasure and pain. Though she wasn’t sure she could ever completely surrender, the primal part of her wanted to try, even knowing this man could break her in ways she never imagined. Because once he possessed her, he owned her and it would be too late to turn back. She can only pray that he doesn’t destroy her in the end.

Not worth it
I have liked this authors books in the past but this was hard to get through. I got 90% done and just didn’t think reading the rest was worth my time. A lot of the inner dialogue for the female character is repeated. Very weak and whiny of a character. Wouldn’t recommend.

Terrific
I didn't think I was going to like this new series based on some of the reviews but I was completely wrong. I got so engrossed and sucked in by Drake and Evangeline that I am anxious for the next book. The dominating and ruthless businessman with the shy and doubtful waitress draws you in to see if a relationship is possible. Can he be what she needs? Can she be what he is missing? And, can true love be found? Typical scenario well done with an edge...or two. I find the books of extreme BDSM interesting and engaging because I can't completely wrap my head around it. This particular story however, was well done in my opinion. To witness what I perceive as imbalance to come into a balance and then to be brought down again was mesmerizing. I look forward to seeing where Drake and Evangeline story continues in the next installment.

Flawed but Good
The characters, particularly the female lead are one-dimensional and cardboard. I did not for one minute believe that the characters acted in a rational manner, and the storyline stretched credulity time and again. But so what! The book was an enjoyable read. I finished it and I am moving on to part two.

Couldn’t put it down!
If you loved her breathless trilogy... check this trilogy out. I’m just bummed that I’m done. PLEASE ADD MORE BOOKS TO THIS TRILOGY!

Slow moving
This book starts out well enough. Good hook to draw you in..... then it slows way way down! I have read almost all of Maya's books and this one took forever to get through. I think it when a little to far with the "trust" thing. At one point I yelled out we get it!!! Move on already! The female character was hard to relate to. No one can be THAT much of an angel! The twist at the end was brilliant though. I did not see that coming and I'm good a predicting the end. I'm hoping the next two books pick up the speed. Not one of Maya's best books in my opinion. 🤷🏼♀️

Good story but ..
This story was good. In fact I found the characters so interesting I couldn’t stop. I seems a good editor could have gotten rid of the wordiness and repeated passages. Some parts, within three paragraphs, the nearly identical sentence would appear. Sometime a paragraph or two would say the same feelings or ideas from earlier in the book without adding anything new. In spite of this I read until the end. I hope the second book is more carefully edited.

Bloated, rape, incomplete and expensive
Normally I enjoy MB's stories. This one, however, I would give a pass. A lot of long, drawn out internal rambling dialogue, a half-complete story, and a shockingly violent assault near the end pretty much killed any good will for the characters. Some things you don't come back from, and sexual assault between the hero/heroine is one of them. I truly wondered if her beta readers gave her any valuable feedback before letting this go.

Bloated story, not worth the price
I don't know about you, but I am so disappointed with authors dragging stories about one couple across multiple books. (The author addresses this in her comments at the end of the book, but after reading the book, I just don't believe it. They can earn more money this way. Period.) Some parts of this book were good, but the story development was so slow because of too much time spent on listing characters' inner thoughts and internal rehashing of conversations. It all could have been removed and the whole story condensed into one book, possibly justifying the $9.99 cover price. I doubt I will continue to read the rest of the series. Too bad, because other characters (Maddox, Silas) were intriguing and deserve their own SINGLE book.

Just.. No
I thought 50 shades was the worst book I've ever read.. I was wrong. What the hell did I just read?! It wasn't put together well at all. I kept getting bored.. Won't be finishing this series. Yikes.

Can't wait for part two
I love reading Ms. banks books. But it's really mean to make me wait for the ending of this story! All her books are great. As mentioned in another review, I also felt there were too many words sometimes in the paragraph and just wanted to skip them to find out what happened next. Other than that great story.

Wait a minute! WHAT?!?! You drop a bomb of a cliffhanger like that and expect us to wait more than four months for the next series book? Are you kidding me? That's just mean.

Cliffhanger - there is a 2nd book
Great book, as always, but note there is a cliffhanger which I didn't find out until afterwards UGHHHHHH (surprised that the message from MB wasn't put into the beginning as an author's note bec it totally resonates).

Mastered by Maya Banks
I love reading Maya Banks' books! I was in the middle of another book when this one downloaded. I stopped what I was reading and started right in on Mastered. I was not disappointed!! Love it.

Repetitive
I used to love reading Maya Banks' books. Once she hit the #1 lists - her content AND writing started slipping...I still read, but I'm often left w/wordiness that drives me crazy, especially w/this book. I'll prob read the rest of their story just to have closure, but I think I'm done reading Bank's books at this point. Just a huge disappointment

Exciting new series!
I love Maya Banks books and was excited to get to read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the first in a new series and is centered around Drake Donovan and Evangeline Hawthorn. These two characters are polar opposites but totally right for each other. Drake is one of a group of "brothers." These men are very much alpha males that have seen and done things that would scare most normal people. They all have their secrets and live in a world that doesn't always work within the laws of the land. Even with these characteristics, all of them have a softer, caring side that they don't seem to normally show to anyone, yet they do to Evangeline. Drake finds himself feeling things that he had closed off years prior. Evangeline is the very epitome of an innocent young lady that cares much more for others than herself. She is finds herself in Drake's world; a world that is totally different from everything she has ever known. Her feelings for Drake are important enough to her to give up her independence to be a part of his life. The entire time, she doubts that Drake could care for someone like her. The story of these two attempting to make their relationship work is very emotional at times. It is very hot as is typical with Ms. Banks books. Just as you think all is well, you are hit with a cliffhanger that will have you shaking your head. I really enjoyed this book and the story. I found it a bit "wordy" at times and felt that it could have moved a little faster because of that. I very much enjoyed the characters and am now anxiously awaiting the next book to get a resolution to the cliffhanger and this couple. I am also very interested in reading the stories of Drake's "brothers." 4 Stars for this one.
